Welcome
to Vatican Radio's Indian programme
This is our first step into the cyberworld, in order to be
in closer touch with those who follow us on the radio. As time goes
by, we shall try to update our site in order to be more useful to
you in many ways.
The
Indian Section broadcasts in three Indian languages - Hindi,
Tamil and Malayalam - as well as in English. Our main target area
is South Asia, comprising India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka,
Nepal and Bhutan. However, our programmes also reach other parts
of Asia and the world, whose issues often feature in our programmes
and news.
Each
language broadcasts twice daily for 20 minutes each. The evening
programme is rebroadcast the following morning. The Hindi, Tamil,
Malayalam and English programmes follow one after the other for
a total of 1 hour 20 minutes.

To
meet the spiritual needs of many of our listeners who, due to unavoidable
reasons and circumstances, are unable to fulfil their Sunday obligation
of attending Mass, we broadcast live the Holy Mass twice a week
from the Chapel of the Annunciation here at Vatican Radio.

Each
of the four languages follows an overall common format - a feature
programme that ends with news from around the world, except for
Sundays when there is no news. However, each language schedules
its own programmes and content. Our news cover mainly Catholic and
religious events from around the world, particularly those of the
Pope and the Holy See, as also humanitarian and development issues.
A click at each of our Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and English programme
links will give a better idea of the issues we deal with in our
programmes. Here, one must mention that once week, i.e. on Sundays,
the Hindi language programme features a short programme in Urdu,
the main language spoken in Pakistan.
Each
of the four languages of Vatican Radio's Indian Section maintains
a monthly newsletter or magazine which we send out to our listeners
regularly, keeping them abreast with the latest, particularly in
the Vatican and the Catholic world.

For those of our listeners who justifiably feel it very expensive
to write to us at Vatican Radio here in Rome, we have made it easy
for them. All you need to do is to take a postcard or inland letter
available at your local post office, and write to us at any of the
several Vatican Radio offices in India and one in Sri Lanka, listed
below. Our staff at these offices will redirect your mail to us
here. For those who can avail of the e-mail facility, each of our
language programmes has an e-mail address.
